Much like fine classical music, there are many different levels to the enjoyment of well-designed and executed ironwork. From a distance, you see the entire shape, like a pen-and-ink drawing against the background. Then there is the negative space, which the lines create, sometimes more complicated and fascinating than the lines themselves. Finally you see and touch the individual elements, the details of their forging, the textures left along the way, the methods of their assembly. Even the most beautiful elements fail to harmonize if proper attention isn't paid to design and assembly, but excellence throughout the process is an orchestra for the eyes.
